LoginResearch Assistant has become Effortless Ancestry!
The TNG Research Assistant is being replaced with the my new web based research service, Effortless Ancestry. This new service provides the same research capabilities, but removes nearly all of the research overhead off of your system and onto our servers. The last several months have been spent fine tuning the search capabilities, expanding the number of databases (which will begin to grow quickly now that most of the development is done) and providing a similar capability for researchers not using TNG. I have also developed a "Search Assurance" system that will automatically continue to look for matches on individuals as new sources are added.
Unfortunately, because of the numerous differences between how Research Assistant stores data and how Effortless Ancestry works, existing results stored in Research Assistant cannot be transferred over. Moving from Research Assistant is straightforward and should involve the following steps:
- Remove 'researchasst' from the $addon definition in customconfig.php.
- You can safely remove all ra_* files from the main directory as well as the admin and English directories.
- Download and install the new files from the Effortless Ancestry download page.
- Register at Effortless Ancestry.
- Enable the TNG interface in your account and create a new TNG database.
- Enter the database ID into the Effortless Ancestry config on your website.
- Start researching!
